The word that comes to mind for this presentation is Charming”. It is the first time I have seen this musical by George Stiles and I was charmed from the very first scene. The delightful Sets designed by Paul Butler were most imaginative and well constructed. With the Musicians only just visible over the top of the scenery the whole production took on an almost magical effect. The playing was very atmospheric and never overpowered the singing.

Although the story is not difficult to follow the musical score is very difficult, but this talented society accomplished it with ease.

The general movement of the cast left no doubt as to their assumed gender or which animal they were meant to be.

The chorus singing was of the highest standard and each member assumed an individual identity.

Joan Francis as Ida gave yet another most professional performance getting lots of laughs but also much sympathy. Pete Grant held his own as the Drake and Audrey Jordan was more than seductive as Maureen. Her duet with Ida "The Joy of Motherhood" was extremely well done. The casting of Craig Fisher as Ugly and Gareth Lloyd as the Cat was a master stoke. I cannot imagine anyone giving a better performance to these characters. Craig portrayed his embarrassment at being the odd one out very well but also achieved a sense of fun and boyish enjoyment at discovering things. Gareth used his lithe physique to full advantage with expressive mannerisms and stunning movements.

All the other characters in the cast were superbly portrayed and also sang well. Many congratulations to Director Paul Butler for presenting a production that was bursting with vitality and many ingenious touches.
