Colourful characters

The Mikado
Trowbridge Civic Hall
Until tomorrow

THE MIKADO is a truly colourful evening out. It is a bit of a black comedy which requires the audience to really concentrate in order to follow the story. Trowbridge Operatic Society have done a fantastic job in bringing Gilbert and Sullivan's Japan to the heart of Trowbridge.

The large cast were all excellent in their individual roles, with clear confident voices and a mixture of both youth and experience.

There were lots of lovely light comedy moments.

In particular the clever local twist as Ko-Ko ran off his list of people who should be executed, including our current prime minister and the local town planning authority!

All the artists could be heard distinctly and the whole musical experience was enhanced by an enthusiastic orchestra.

The Mikado provides a lighthearted and enjoyable musical experience.

The costumes, make-up and scenery were extremely professional and visually appealing.

What must have taken months of hard work, planning and rehearsal has paid off and resulted in a really entertaining production.
