Wiltshire Times The chance to shine - or not Showstoppers 3 THE first thing I noticed about Trowbridge Amateur Operatic Society's performance of Showstoppers 3 was that all the cast had a chance to shine. The second thing was that not all of them were really up to the task. The show presented numbers from hit musicals including Evita, Porgy andBess, Gigi and Oliver. The cast took turns to sing the main part, which meant those without a strong voice were overwhelmed by the chorus and, in some cases, really couldn't be heard at all. That said, others easily held their own, with Pete Grant's performance of Pick a Pocket from Oliver standing out, and Lisa Analts having a good stab at Don't Cry for me Argentina. The strong voices of Paul Butler and Paul Morgan gave some oomph to proceedings throughout. Some of the choices made for the performance were a little odd - grown men can't really get away with playing pitiful, starving orphan boys singing Food Glorious Food, can they? Competently performed, entertaining and, on the whole, not a bad way to spend an evening. Morwenna Blake
