Trowbridge Amateur Operatic Society “TITANIC – The Musical”.
The Civic Hall. May 2006.

With music & lyrics by Maury Yeston, Titanic – The Musical is a very ambitious production for any society to present.

It has twenty scenes, thirty musical numbers, twenty cast and a large chorus, but T.A.O.S. took it all in its stride and came up with a first class presentation. The difficult music was handled well by Musical Director Helen Bilkey who kept orchestra and singers well under control.

Choreographer Diane Scott gave the dancing the correct mood for the period and it was done well.

The clever set design by Director Paul Butler worked extremely well. The Ship’s Bridge, Radio Room and Crow’s Nest were very effective.

Lighting and sound were good throughout and the costumes were right for the period. T.A.O.S. has a reputation for fine chorus singing and they maintained it in this production.

All the cast and chorus were very much into their parts, many had very quick changes of costumes. The drama came across very well and the tension mounted gradually to the climax at the end of Act 1 when the Titanic sailed towards her fateful collision with the iceberg.

I was impressed with the number of men in this production, some for the first time on stage, but they all did incredibly well and were most convincing and always in character.

I thought the programme design and content was very good and congratulate everyone on a very difficult show, extremely well presented.
