Trowbridge Amateur Operatic Society (Youth Theatre)
High School Musical - Civic Hall - August 2007
What an exciting Evening.
This was the first production presented by The Trowbridge Youth Theatre and it was a huge success.
Based on a Disney Channel Original Movie written by Peter Barsocchini with music adapted, arranged and Produced by Bryan Louiselle, this was a most challenging musical to undertake and it proved to be extremely popular.
The enthusiasm by the whole company was breathtaking. Many of the fifty people had never been on stage before and they all did superbly well.
The Band, under the Musical Direction of Phil Springate, played well and never overpowered the singing.
The Sound was well controlled and the lighting fantastic.
Costumes were very good and make-up most natural.
With such a large cast it would be ludicrous to single out many characters as everyone did extremely well but special mention must be made of David Smith as Troy Bolton and Roberta Partington as Gabriella Montez in the leading roles. Their singing, especially their duets, were well put over. Their harmony was most engaging.
Leonie Harrison played Sharpay Evans with great acting and dancing and Joe Lucas as Ryan Evans danced and sang his way into people’s hearts.
The large audience, many of whom were young people, often sang along with the company in the well known choruses.
Director and Choreographer Wendy Kiddell is to be highly congratulated for undertaking this difficult show and making it so successful.
Youth Theatre Coordinator Matt Heaton and his team must be well pleased that all their efforts were so well rewarded.
